In searching for the right place to start in our process of adding in livestock, we landed on cats. Barn cats to be exact!
We headed to the SPCA one rainy morning in mid-December. "We have just the cats for you!" said the friendly woman who answered our call. When we arrived, we were led to a backroom with a nice sized crate — in it were two male kittens about 7 months old. We were told that with their temperament, they would make the perfect barn cats. After observing their hunting skills chasing after colorful wool "mice" and "birds" on sticks, we knew it too. We had done plenty of research on how to properly acclimate kittens to a new space and have them learn the boundaries of their new home — we were ready! We loaded them together into a carrier and brought them down the gravel road to what would soon become a 10 acre territory for them to patrol all day long. We enjoy doing everything from taking walks on the property to gardening to chopping wood with our little farmhands always somewhere nearby.
